OPEN STUDIOS. 2014. West Berkshire & North Hampshire.

OPEN STUDIOS. 2014. West Berkshire & North Hampshire.
Visited the flagship exhibition at New Greenham Arts centre. Insight 2014.
There are over a hundred artists taking part with some wonderful and varied work. My favorite piece of sculpture is the whirlwind of leaves in bronze, by Siobhan Coppinger, it's really beautiful. Also some eye catching paintings by Jill Eislee and Nuala Whales. It really needs more than one visit, there is Studio 8 to visit as well!
The exhibition at Arlington Arts starts on Thursday 15th, called Cover to Cover.
Open Studios is on for a month.http://www.open-studios.org.uk/aboutUs.php

CHRISTCHURCH MEADOWS UNDER THREAT.
This is urgent we need your support for this campaign to prevent development of ChristChurch Meadows. We need to raise at least 1500 signatures to achieve a much needed debate in the council as they tend to ignore the observations and objections of those that live in and around the meadows. Prevent further flooding.

CHRISTMAS AT STUDIO 21. 14 - 17th Nov & 23rd - 24th Nov 2013

John Parrey
The fish are all individual although I always use local english oak for the body, inlay hickory for the spots, boxwood for the lighter colour of the eyes and usually bamboo for the teeth.
They are all numbered on sterling silver tags hanging from the tails. They range from 20 to 58 inches long and are priced from £175 to £1400+.
I enjoy working in all natural materials, especially wood and metal. My main influences are medieval and renaissance objects and art and I try to capture character, life and a timeless quality in all my pieces

The Space Between: 7th May -29th June
What is it about you and me? Subject/Object, Self/Other? For many artists (not to mention philosophers and thinkers the world over) these questions have been asked for thousands of years. Some believe that the act of making an object that can exist outside of ourselves can, in the fact of its very existence allow us to know that we, in turn really exist. This simple magic is found at The Space Between.Image by Nigel Moores

Victoria Baker

Vicky Baker: A range of hand stitched Leather bags can accomodate a life, but be a stylish and elegant object, with a strong sense of sculptural form and line. Othetrs have a similar function but in textiles and leather combinations. Jewellery is simple and contemporary, combining both modern and conventional materials.

Sally Bettridge

Sally Bettridge: Presents a wide range of high fired domestic earthenware and a new range of porcelain forms.Handthrown earthenware is trailed with coloured slips using a traditional technique, producing a contemporary design whic has specific food related functions. Porcelain forms are cast in handmade moulds, and then decorated, using a range of subtle glazes to enhance the translucency of the clay. A third and final kiln firing adds Gold and Platinum lustres to complete the delicate surface. T:01635 42701

Michael Norcross.

Local landscapes, personal as well as found imagery all convey an interest in shadows involving colour, luminosity, mood and atmosphere. Some provide more complex ideas for paintings with narrative elements, which can operate on several different levels. High quality prints in a variety of sizes are available or can be ordered through the artist. Email: michaelnorcross@hotmail.co.uk

Vicky Baker:
I design and make a range of bespoke handmade bags in Leather and Textiles, some combine both disciplines. I'm currently working  with fabric woven by The Designer Weaving Company, who weave and make wonderful coats and jackets, and combining it with my own Leather work. I've always liked Brogue designs on Shoes and I'm using my own designs employing this technique.
I also produce Jewellery in a range of materials including Silver and Acrylic. 07795 167314

Sally Bettridge: I produce a wide range of slip decorated, high fired earthenware as well as new range of porcelain pieces. I employ techniques in my pieces, such as throwing, casting and slip trailing, apply them to a contemporary design approach, resulting in functional domestic ware which has a specific food related use.
I make my pieces in batches of the same form. In the case of mugs, this can take up to five days to complete before they can be dried, fired to biscuit temperature, glazed and then fired to glaze temperature on small individual trivets. The trivets allow the base of the piece to be glazed and thus the slip decoration design covers the whole form.
These forms are intended to enhance the users enjoyment of food!

Michael Norcross : Paintings and prints draw on a wide range of subject matter, some of which is very local, an interest in colour, luminosity, mood, atmosphere and shadows. Recent work involves landscapes from the immediate vicinity of his Caversham Studio. Others evoke more complex ideas, some of which have implied narrative elements. Several recent works have local references. The painting of the magnificent cup and saucer Magnolia Tree, which can be found in the grounds of Queen Anne's School, or the Park Life series derived from local scenes in the local Christchurch meadows, Caversham,  by the River Thames in Reading. These can been seen in The Picture Framer shop in Caversham.michaelnorcross@hotmail.co.uk.

''Our houses contain hundreds of objects both useful and useless. The bag is not an object but a construction destined to accommodate a life''. Or is it? Shape has always played an important part in my work and with a strong sense of sculptural form and line. I have designed and made a range of hand stitched Handbags in Leather, which can accommodate a life but also be a stylish and elegant object.

Juliet Hookey.

Following on from last year’s body of work I have for the last few months continued to explore the themes of water concealment. This has been through experimentation with photographing different water scenes, but mainly the water’s surface, where the light hits and often blinds us from seeing what’s really there. As a result these images have taken on a more abstract form as the colours and focus are more limited, these images are not manipulated in anyway.
