Reading Museum Exhibition. A Sense of Place.#Studio 21

A Sense of Place
Running: From: 24 Oct 2015 To: 08 May 2016
Venue: Sir John Madejski Art Gallery, Reading Museum & Town Hall, Blagrave Street, Reading, Berkshire, RG1 1QH
Corsica II by Alistair Grant
An exhibition of the very best of our twentieth century landscape paintings as well as a chance to see the huge Reading Tapestries by John Piper.
The exhibition includes thirty paintings by some of the best-known British artists such as Eric Ravilious, Paul Nash, Joan Eardley and David Bomberg. Places depicted are rural and urban landscapes as far afield as New York and Mexico.
The artworks are accompanied by an extraordinary set of poems made by nationally respected poets in response to individual paintings and craft objects by local makers who each chose a painting as inspiration.
There will be related workshops, events and study days as part of our January to March Art in the Dark Months programme.
What visitors are saying:
‘Love the concept and presentation; an exhibition to return to and linger over…’
‘Cracking stuff – as good an exhibition as you are likely to find! Eardley, Weight – wonderful.’
‘What a great exhibition – very innovative – good variety and so good to be able to read work of local poets too. Thank you.’
